At Ichinomiya, we love learning while having fun in English! #Funglish
Our energetic 4th graders are having a blast participating in various Halloween games while learning about Halloween English words and expressions. 

 一ノ宮小では、英語を楽しみながら学ぶ、まさに『Funglish』を大事にしています。その中で、元気いっぱいの４年生は『ハロウィーン』特有の言葉や表現を学びながら、ハロウィーンにまつわるゲームを思いっきり楽しみました。

The first activity was identifying Halloween characters/objects. New words were unlocked! The second activity was the Gesture Game, where a leader (teacher/student) would show three actions a witch, a bat, and a ghost. They enjoyed playing this game and showed competitiveness to receive our lovely Halloween stickers.

まず初めに、ハロウィーンでよく登場する人物や物を確認しました。新しい単語でしたが、しっかり習得できました！２つ目の活動は、リーダーとなる先生や生徒たちが、魔女・コウモリ・お化けの３つに扮する『ジェスチャーゲーム』でした。かわいいハロウィーンシール争奪戦を繰り広げながらとても楽しみました。

ALTs also shared how they are celebrating Halloween in the Philippines. They were shocked that Filipinos brought food and had karaoke at the cemetery. Seeing their happy faces and receiving their rewards motivated us to add more exciting activities for them to experience in future events.

ALTからは、フィリピンでのハロウィーンが紹介されました。フィリピンでは、ハロウィーンの際、人々がお墓に食べ物を持っていき、お墓の前で食べたりカラオケをしたりすることに、とてもびっくりしていました。生徒たちの喜ぶ顔や頑張る姿を見ると、彼らの将来の経験のために、さらなる楽しい活動を・・・という私たちのモチベーションアップにつながっています。

Who makes better curry?

誰がより美味しいカレーを作れるかな？

Sixth graders made their original curry recipe to recommend to ALTs. They shared the unique name of their curry and the ingredients they wanted.

６年生は、２人のALTにおススメするカレーのレシピを考えました。そのカレーにはユニークな名前も付けられ、彼らが入れたいと思う食材が入っています。また、その食材の生産地も特有の味も伝えてくれました。

The sixth graders came up with curry recipes to recommend to the two ALTs, with unique names and ingredients they wanted to include.

『ナルトゲーム』を行って、それぞれの食べ物の味に関するヒントを与え合うこともできました。このゲームを通じて、楽しみながらもきちんと学べたことがわかります。

They also shared where the ingredients come from and the taste of their original curry. Students also played a Naruto game, where they gave hints about the taste of their food. Everyone enjoyed and participated in this game.

　ALTはこうした活動を見ながら確信できました、生徒たちはカレーのレシピを上手に決めることができたのだと。

They also told us where the ingredients were produced and their unique flavors. They also played the "Naruto Game" and gave each other hints about the flavor of each food. Through this game, we were able to learn while having fun.

生徒たちは、子供ながらに自分自身で決定できるということを学び得たと言えるでしょう。まさに自立学習です！　みんながんばりました！

ALTs observed the activity, and they were able to pull it off. It was good to know that our students could decide on their recipes for the curry. It means that they are taught at a young age to decide for themselves. Independent learning it is ! Good job everyone!

The ALT was convinced by these activities that the students were able to decide on a curry recipe well. The students learned that they could make their own decisions even though they were still children. This is truly independent learning! Everyone did their best!

道案内をお願いします

Students from fifth graders challenged themselves in a pair activity. The gym was used to be the town, and students have to give and follow directions to find different facilities in town.

５年生はペア活動で道案内に挑戦しました。体育館を街に見立てそこにある様々な施設へ、お互いに道案内をしたりされたりする活動です。

The guide will hold the map and give directions, while the other student will ask, “Where is the _____?” and follow the instructions from their partner.

案内する側は地図を持って方向を教え、される側は「○○はどこですか？」とたずね教えられた方向へと進んで行きます。

Students expressed so much joy as they successfully found their way on different facilities. This is a great practice that they may use in the real world.

それぞれ建物を上手に見つけられる度に、子供たちは大喜びでした。この活動は現実世界でも役に立つ素晴らしい練習となっています。

お友達になるお手伝いをしよう

The fifth-grade pupils had the opportunity to deliver speeches regarding the staff of Ichinomiya Elementary School.  

５年生は一の宮小の先生方についてのスピーチを行いました。生徒たちは先生方の役職やできることなど重要な情報を私たちに教えてくれる素晴らしいスピーチをしてくれました。

The students did a great job sharing important information about the school staff such as their position and things they can do. Additionally, positive adjectives like "funny," "active," and "friendly" were used to describe teachers.

加えて、前向きな様子を表す「面白い」とか「活発な」、「親しみやすい」といった形容詞を使って先生方のことを紹介してくれました。

Through the speeches, the ALTs will be able to form close friendships with the Ichinomiya ES teachers and learn more about them. We are thrilled with the students' progress; as they say, practice makes perfect. Congratulations 5th graders. 

このスピーチを通して、ALTは一ノ宮小の先生方とより親しくなり、もっとたくさんのことを知ることができるでしょう。生徒たちの取り組みに、私たちはワクワクドキドキでした。よく言われるように、『継続は力なり』です。すごいぞ、５年生！

What's Up, Everyone! (Talk Show)

やあ、みなさん！（トークショー）

What a great talk show today at Ichinomiya Elementary School! The sixth graders did an amazing job on their talk show. Most students in both classes spoke loudly, made eye contact, and used gestures.

一ノ宮小では、なんて素晴らしいトークショウが行われたことでしょう！！　６年生はそのトークショーの中で、びっくりするような力を発揮しました。両クラスの生徒とも大きな声で、お互いに目を見て、ジェスチャーを使いながら話すことができました。

These students have a future in TV someday! We are glad to see how much these students enjoy learning English. As proud teachers, we want them to be more exposed to speaking activities so that they can ask more questions and have longer conversations with their classmates, teachers, and other foreigners! #FUNGLISH

もしかしたら、いつの日かテレビに出ちゃうかも！生徒たちのこうした楽しく学ぶ姿勢を見ていると、私たちも嬉しくなります。私たちも誇りをもって、子供たちにもっと意欲的にスピーチ活動に参加させていきたいと思います。そして、ゆくゆくは、クラスメイトや先生、さらには他の外国人にもたくさん質問したり長くおしゃべりをしたりできるようになってほしいと願っています。#FUNGLISH

FUNGLISH TV Show!

ファングリッシュ　TVショー

At our school, the sixth graders are now getting ready for their upcoming talk show. They are going to do interviews with their friends over their summer break.

私たちの学校では今、６年生が近々行うトークショーの準備を行っています。番組のテーマは夏休みの思い出。

The highlights of their summer vacation will be presented like the places they visited, the activities they did and the food they ate there.

友達にインタビューをします。自分の訪れた場所やそこでしたこと、食べたものなど、自分の一番だと思う夏休みの１日について語ります。

Everyone gets the opportunity to experience being the director, the guest, and the host. We are excited to see how they would pull this activity off! 

この活動の中では、皆がそれぞれ、ディレクター、ゲスト、MCの役割を体験します。どのように出来上がるのか、楽しみです！

一ノ宮小の職員

Grade 5 students flocked the staff room and visited the teachers to have a short interview with them. 

５年生は職員室を訪れ、先生方にインタビューを行いました。

The students tried their best to ask questions with the teachers in English such as “What do you teach?”, “What can you do?”.

その際、“What do you teach?”, “What can you do?”といった簡単な質問は英語でできるように、一生懸命がんばりました。

This is their task for the Unit 4 in Funglish class. They will make a short speech about the teachers and present this to the ALTs.

これは今回の学習のタスクにもなっています。こうした先生方へのインタビューをもとに、ALTにスピーチをしてくれる予定です。

My favorite color, sports and food.

私のお気に入りの色・スポーツ・食べ物

3rd graders learned different colors, sports and foods.

３年生は、さまざまな色やスポーツ、食べ物について学習しました。

The students were thrilled to play the Rainbow Bingo and rainbow coloring activity in which they shared in pair activity and told their friends about their rainbow.

生徒たちはワクワク、ドキドキしながらレインボービンゴをやったり、好きな色でオリジナルレインボーを作ったりして楽しみました。

They also enjoyed the alligator game for the vocabulary practice.

そうした活動を通じて、友達同士、自分の『虹』について伝え合うことができました。

They can already say the color, sports and food they like and don’t like. We are looking forward to their presentation for this unit.

また、単語練習で行ったアリゲーターゲームも大いに盛り上がりました。今や、子供たちは自分の好きな色やスポーツ、食べ物について伝えられることはもちろん、加えて、「好きではない」ということも言えるようになりました。彼らのプレゼンが楽しみです。

4th graders can tell the time and daily activities in English. They are excited to share their favorite time and activity in the next lesson.

４年生は、時間と日常生活の中での活動を英語で言えるようになりました。次回の授業では、自分のお気に入りの時間とその時間に何をするのかを英語で伝え合う予定です。

As always, these energetic students are participative and motivated every time we have challenging activities. We're happy to see them enjoying and learning English. #FunGlish

みんな、わくわくしながら待ちわびています。いつものことですが、こうしたやる気いっぱいの生徒たちは、私たちが与えるチャレンジ課題に意欲的に全力で取り組んでくれます。子ども達が楽しんで英語を学んでくれる姿を見て、とてもうれしく感じています。

My Favorite Kanji

私の好きな漢字

Third graders demonstrated their progress in counting during our final lesson for this unit.

３年生は、この単元の最後の授業で、数え方の進歩を披露しました。

They showed their favorite Kanji in front of the class, counting its strokes.

彼らはクラスのみんなの前で自分の好きな漢字を見せ、画数を数えました。

They did a great job responding to questions and engaging with the audience during the presentation.

彼らはプレゼンテーション中に質問に答え、聴衆と交流するという素晴らしい仕事をしました。

 The three-day Funglish Club 2024 was attended by the ALTs and many students from different Elementary schools and Junior High Schools in Tomioka City. Some students from Ichinomiya Elementary School took part in the aforementioned activity. The ALTs created various stations that included games that introduced students to English sentences and phrases, which they found enjoyable.

3日間のファングリッシュクラブ2024には、富岡市内の各小学校・中学校からALTや多くの生徒が参加しました。一ノ宮小学校の児童数名も上記の活動に参加しました。 ALT は、生徒たちに英語の文章やフレーズを紹介するゲームを含むさまざまなステーションを作成し、生徒たちはそれが楽しいと感じました。

With assistance from the ALTs, the students also got to try making "turon," or banana spring rolls, a well-known Filipino snack/dessert. The majority of students found both the cooking exercise and the banana spring roll itself enjoyable. Four Funglish Towns—the Dance Studio, Art Gallery, Science Lab, and Theater—increased students' language exposure. The students are free to join the town based on their interests and skills. Following an hour preparation period, students’ works were presented to everyone where English was utilized. 

ALTの協力を得て、生徒たちはフィリピンの有名なスナック/デザートである「トゥロン」、つまりバナナの春巻き作りにも挑戦しました。大多数の生徒は、調理実習とバナナ春巻き自体の両方が楽しいと感じました。ダンス スタジオ、アート ギャラリー、サイエンス ラボ、劇場の 4 つのファングリッシュ タウンにより、学生は言語に触れやすくなりました。学生は自分の興味やスキルに応じて自由に町に参加できます。 1時間の準備期間を経て、英語を駆使して生徒たちの作品が全員に発表されました。

In addition to making the most of the students' three-day summer vacation, this activity introduced them to the English language and helped them form friendships with all the other students who took part in the event. At the end of the activity, everybody yelled, "I love Funglish", and " I love Tomioka!"  

このアクティビティは、生徒たちに 3 日間の夏休みを最大限に活用するだけでなく、生徒たちに英語を紹介し、イベントに参加した他の生徒たちと友情を育むのにも役立ちました。活動の最後には、みんなで「ファングリッシュ大好き！」「富岡大好き！」と叫びました。

Let's Play in Sakura Elementary School

来年、さくら小で一緒に遊んだり英語を楽しんだりしましょうね

Grade 5 students did an amazing job on their videos for students from Nyu and Yoshida. They viewed the videos made by Nyu and Yoshida Elementary School students this week.

5年生は丹生小、吉田小の生徒のために、素晴らしいビデオレターを作りました。また、反対に、今週、丹生小や吉田小の生徒たちが作ってくれたビデオレターを見ました。

The students watched their videos with great attention. They made notes of the students who shared the same names with their classmates, the same birth month, the same preferences and dislikes, or similar abilities or limitations.

生徒たちは夢中になって見ていました。見ながら、クラスメイトと同じ名前の生徒や同じ誕生月の生徒、他にも、好きなものや嫌いなものが同じだったり、似た才能を持っている生徒や同じイニシャルの生徒も見つけました。

Some of the students are willing to give messages to thank the students from Nyu and Yoshida. Ichinomiya students really appreciate the videos and they are looking forward to meet them next year.  It's clear that this is a great way for the students to get to know one another before the three schools merge the following year.

中には、嬉しそうに丹生小や吉田小の生徒に感謝のメッセージを送っている生徒もいました。一ノ宮小の生徒たちは、このビデオをたいへん喜び、来年会えるのを楽しみにしています。今回の課題は、来年3校が合併する前にお互いのことを知る本当に素晴らしい機会になりました。

いちばん好きな曜日はなあに？

Fourth-grade students gave an excellent presentation about their favorite days and activities. 4年生は、自分の好きな曜日や活動について素晴らしい発表ができました。

They made fun gestures, and everyone could pronounce the target sentences correctly and loudly. 楽しいジェスチャーも添えられ、加えて、ポイントとなる文の発音も完ぺきに大きな声でできました。

Both speakers and listeners did their best and helped and cheered for each other during the presentation. 発表する側も聞く側もしっかりでき、発表中はお互いに励まし合うこともできました。

It was good to see how engaged they are in our English classes. 私たちの英語の授業にどれほど一生懸命参加してくれているか伝わってきました。 Great job, everyone. みんな本当によくできました。

Let’s see the world!

6th graders did an excellent job as they finished their country's speeches. Most students in both classes could tell the countries they would recommend to ALTs.

The English team enjoyed watching and listening to their wonderful speeches. They were comfortable using English in presentations.

Everyone worked diligently, and we saw how excited they were to deliver their presentations to everyone.

世界を見てみよう！

6年生は、自分が興味を持った国について、素晴らしいスピーチをしていました。両クラスとも半分以上が終え、みんなALTにおススメしたい国について話すことができました。我々英語チームは、楽しく生徒たちの素敵なスライドを見たりスピーチを聞いたりしました。生徒たちも、英語での発表にとても満足しているようでした。

　　全員が熱心に取り組んでいたため、その様子を見て、いかに彼らがワクワクしながら自分のスピーチをみんなに届けているのかが伝わってきました。　　

がんばってくれたことに感謝します。生徒の皆さん、よくできました！

What fruit do you like?

Yume-Sora-Tsuki classes were full of energy and excitement when they entered the Funglish room. We introduced different fruits in English by playing a guessing game and building a tower.

どのくだものが好きかな？

ゆめ・そら・つぎ組の授業は、彼らがFunglishルームに入ってきた時からやる気と興奮であふれていました。

当てっこゲームやカップタワーゲームをしながら、様々な果物を英語で紹介していきましたが、生徒たちはそうした活動に一生懸命取り組んでいました。

They were very participative in our activities, and they were able to say the fruits that they liked in English. It was fun seeing them enjoy the English language. Great job!

そして、自分の好きな果物を英語で言えるようになりました。彼らが英語という言語を楽しんでくれているのを見て、こちらも楽しかったです。がんばったね！

Let's Make Friends! 友達になろう！

The Grade 5 students prepared a lot for their videos which will be sent to Nyu and Yoshida. They practiced their speech using nice gestures and very clear voice. They presented very well with smiles on their faces.

5年生は、丹生小・吉田小に送るビデオを作るため、たくさん準備をしてきました。素敵なジェスチャーをつけ、はっきりした声で練習も行い、笑顔を添えてとても上手に発表することができました。そして、この２校の新しい友達に会うのをわくわくしながら待っているようです。

They seem very excited to meet new friends from the two school. This is their last presentation for this term and this is also one of the collaboration activity in Funglish to let the students from the three school build friendships even before the official establishment of Sakura Elementary School.

今回が、１学期最後のプレゼンテーションになりますが、これはまた、新設される「さくら小学校」に向けて、３校からなる生徒たちの友達作りを促すFunglishにおけるコラボレーション活動の一環として行いました。

We are looking forward to see all the students from the three school getting along so well next year.

来年度、この３校の生徒たちが仲良く過ごす姿を見るのが楽しみです。

How are you? I am happy!

Grade 3 students are more energetic as we have lesson about feelings. The students learned different feelings that they can use whenever they were asked “How are you?”.

3年生はいつも以上に元気に「感情」を表す表現を勉強しています。〝How are you?”とたずねられた時に使える様々な表現を学びました。

They used different gestures to show their feelings. We have an easy game that they really enjoyed as they talked to their classmates and collect cards.

さらに、それに合わせたジェスチャーも色々使ってみました。簡単なゲームとして、学んだばかりの表現を使いクラスメートと話しながら、カードを交換しました。

One thing is very delightful about the 3rd grade students is their confidence to volunteer and talked in front of the class. We are very happy to see these students very enthusiastic in learning English.

本当に楽しそうでした。また、１つ嬉しかったことは3年生が積極的に手をあげ、みんなの前で堂々と発表できたことです。こうした、夢中になって英語を学ぶ子供たちの姿を、大変嬉しく感じています。

How’s the weather?

The fourth-grade students were able to clearly and correctly pronounce the different weather, games, activities, and clothing in English.

For their presentation, they chose their favorite weather and the appropriate clothing. This activity was enjoyable for everyone. Well done, students!

どんな天気かな？

4年生は様々な天気やそれにあった遊び、活動、そして服装を、英語できちんと正確に言えるようになりました。

また、発表準備として、自分の好きな天気、そしてそれに合った服装を選びました。みんな、この活動をとても楽しんで取り組みました。

Hello Around the World

世界のあいさつ　「こんにちは」

3rd grade students had a fun time learning names and greetings from different countries. They enjoyed the mix and match game, it gave them time to say and greet their friends using greeting from different countries.

３年生は、世界の国名とそのあいさつについて楽しく学びました。ケニアの「こんにちは」は、「ジャンボ」、インドは「ナマステ」、ドイツでは、「グーテンターグ」などたくさんのあいさつの仕方を学びました。

We wrap up the lesson with most of the students wanting to present in front of the class. They use greetings such as Jambo- greetings used in Kenya, Namaste- used in India, Guten Tag- used in Germany and many more. They were very interested in the lesson and they were very confident in using these greetings. We are hoping that they can bring this confidence around the world.

授業の終わりの発表活動では、たくさんの児童がみんなの前で世界のあいさつを使った発表に挑戦したいと「やる気」に満ちあふれていました。大変すばらしかったです。ぜひ今回学習したあいさつをいつか海外で使ってみてほしいと思います。

Today is Funglish Monday, we motivate students to use English as much as they can from teachers and staff. Students are encouraged to greet their teachers and friends in English while teachers use basic Classroom English in class, especially during their homeroom time. 

今日は、『Funglish Monday』です。私たち教職員側から生徒たちになるべく英語を使うよう励ましています。授業中に教員側が基本的な「クラスルームイングリッシュ」を使うと、それに促されるように英語であいさつをしています。特に、英語の授業だけでなく、他の授業でも頑張って取り組んでいます。

 We also have Funglish Lunch Broadcasting, in which the English team conducts a short quiz in English that students and teachers love.  

また、お昼には『Funglishランチ放送』を行っています。その中で、英語教員チームは簡単な

英語でクイズを出しています。生徒も先生も大好きです。

This program makes the school an even more language-rich environment and motivates the students to use the English language both inside and outside the classroom. Let's enjoy Funglish Monday together. 

この取り組みは、学校全体をもっと言語豊かな環境にし、教室の中でも外でも生徒たちが「英語」という言語をどんどん使えるように促す取り組みです。　『Funglish Monday』を一緒に
